Cancun, Mexico

Our tour guide told us to call it chicken pizza…

We stayed at the Grand Oasis Sens Hotel, which is great for its adults only amenities. If your only goal is to lay around like a slug while being brought fruity cocktails? All-inclusives are great for budgeting as once you have spent the money for the flight and hotel, your only additional fees are transfers to and from the airport and the tips. We highly recommend tipping as you go, it ensures fresh clean towels, and a continuously refilled drink.

We have created the perfect packing list to get everything you need for your small town getaway into one lightweight personal item. Flights are getting more expensive, and carry-ons have become a charge for almost every flight. Getting everything you need into the perfect personal item is one of the best tricks to keep costs low.

While the rooms weren’t the greatest the view and the amenities more than make up for it… scratch that we stayed on the wrong side of the resort, (just looked it up) balling on a budget does have its downsides.

At this particular all-inclusive we decided to take a tour to Chichen Itza, (our tour guide told us Gringos to call it Chicken Pizza) it consisted of an all day trek to one of the ancient wonders of the world. Full disclosure this is an all day adventure, and a lot of time spent on a bus. P.S. our tour guide advised that the locally made handicrafts on the outside of the historical site entrance were the best to buy.

I am glad we went… look at our adorable faces here:

Fast forward to one of the best meals of my life, Benazuza is located in the hotel, and features a 20 course tasting menu. Trip Adviser rated it the 4th best restaurant in the world of 2019. Your adventure starts at the bar with a cocktail and some fun liquid nitrogen play. After a few courses there they move you to the table where the real party begins. One bite at a time they walk you through 20 courses wrapping up with a Jelly Lime and a shot of tequila.

If you go to a tropical resort, always bring a travel towel, water shoes, sunscreen and bug spray. For all-inclusives always look up the local recommendations for tipping culture and bring small bills. We found in Cancun $2-$3 per transaction was considered a good tip.
