48 Hours in New Orleans

St. Louis Cathedral

48 Hours in New Orleans, makes the perfect adult weekend! In hindsight not the kid friendly place I thought it would be, live and learn guys. I didn’t do nearly enough research, and just hit up Bourbon Street and got some Beignets.  Bourbon Street was maybe… not the place for young impressionable kids. Were I to do it over, here is what I would actually do.

We have created the perfect packing list to get everything you need for your small town getaway into one lightweight personal item. Flights are getting more expensive, and carry-ons have become a charge for almost every flight. Getting everything you need into the perfect personal item is one of the best tricks to keep costs low.

Day 1

Start at The Garden District, and the Layfette Cemetary walking tour is a must hit!

Pick up a PO-Boy at Domilise’s Po-Boy & Bar or Café Reconcile. They have amazing food and mission.

Once your belly is nice and full, hit up a Ghost, Voodoo & Vampire Walking Tour. There are so many to choose from, just make sure to check Groupon for last minute deals.

For dinner I recommend Coquette for a fine dining experience or Barrow’s Catfish, who has been making fried catfish since 1943, for a more traditional NOLA-fare

After dinner, hit your hotel and be exhausted or go bar hopping, whatever butters your biscuit.

Day 2

AM Brunch (if you have time, man you rolling in that PTO) Morrow’s, Cane & Table, or Gris- Gris all are amazing options. (if like me your are PTO strapped, grab that “continental breakfast” and hit the road)

Then head over to the French Quarter and pick up a Beignet at Café Du Monde. Be prepared for the powdered sugar explosion that is about to occur.  Jackson Square is right across the street and there you can visit St Louis Cathedral & Cabildo for some museum action if you are up for it.

Wrap up your amazing 48 hours in NOLA with dinner at Commander’s Palace – high end and has a dress code but worth it.

Tips and tricks – do a little research before day of departure to get to the airport. If you are traveling during peak times the surge rates are pretty high. There is public transit available if the bus schedule works with your flight time.
