Flitch Coffee Shop

Top 7 Spots to Visit in Austin Texas

Flitch Coffee

Flitch Coffee has reviews all about the lovely dog that you can pet when you visit. The coffee is delicious and the options are endless. The best thing about visiting new places, is the opportunity to support fun local places. This is one of those fun local places. They have all the milk substitutes, and house made syrups, you can make such a happy cup of coffee, and because it is so dog friendly you can pet all the puppies (ask first, but I bet they will say yes)

Isn’t this such a pretty sign, located in a more industrial area it is a little spot of coffee heaven

Next to flitch Coffee is an amazing taco truck, and the options for breakfast tacos were pretty vast. We got the avocado and bacon which was super yummy, creamy and salty. The chorizo and potato was also pretty epic. The tacos are the prefect size to try 2-3 depending on how hungry you are. I recommend 3 since you can never have too many tacos.

Allen Boots

Allen Boots is the premier boot shop in Austin Texas. It has rows and rows of so many beautiful, colorful cowboy, or cowgirl boots. If you are just looking to browse, or are in the market this is the place to find something gorgeous and unique. You should be warned though, well made boots cost a pretty penny… expect prices to start at $499 and up. The exotic materials like ostrich can be $1,600+.

Clarified Milk Punch

An ode to an exotic beverage, have you heard of Clarified Milk Punch? It is a bourbon based drink, but somehow they use milk to purify it and it comes out pale yellow, almost white. It is insanely smooth, and delicious and literally will take you by surprise how yummy it is. It originated from Ireland in the 1600’s and is said to be the perfect “hair of the dog” drink. Basically, it is the most delicious bourbon drink ever, and it is hard to find. You can actually get it in Austin on Congress Ave. at June’s and it is super yummy!

Formula One Tracks

What an amazing concert venue! This is one of the only Formula One Tracks in the United States. It has an amazing ampitheater, and the acostics are pretty fantastic. We saw Willie Nelson here, and I will say it was one of the most nostalgic and inspiring concerts I have been to. Imagine finding what you are meant to do, and following that dream for 80+ years. P.S. if you haven’t listened to his book, it is amazing and because he reads it, it becomes so much more inspiring and awesome.

Congress Ave Bridge

Congress Ave Bridge has a colony of bats, and in September it is the largest urban colony of bats in the United States at about 2 Million. It basically doubles in size in the fall when all the baby bats are born. The bats come out of the Congress Ave Bridge every night at dusk. The best spot to see them is to rent a kayak and paddle out on the river to see them, (do not go right under the bridge, they don’t have a warning before they poop!) You will need to reserve your kayaks in advance if you want to go this route, and get there a little early so you have space to see them. They are very small, so you may want to bring binoculars, but be warned this is a very short activity, the whole “show” only lasts about 20 minutes.

Live Music Capital of the USA

Austin is the live music capital of the USA and one there are two main areas to catch the live music Rainey Street and South Congress Ave. both have some amazing options. It is amazing to me to just be able to walk into a bar, and hear someone just belting out some great music. It is mostly country music, but you can sometimes catch some rock thrown in also.

If you go the Rainey Street route, you must stop into Anthem possibly the coolest Tiki Bar ever. It has so many fun drinks, the Mai-Tai comes in a Chinese take-out container and is genuinely so cute! You absolutely cannot go wrong with any of the amazing an creative drinks on the menu.

So get there a little early and you can learn the basics before it really kicks into gear. This is one of the coolest experiences, and totally iconic to Austin Texas.

World Beard and Moustache Competition

One of the coolest experiences I have had in Austin was going to the World Beard and Moustache Competition. Hear me out on this, because I am not a beard person, nor do I have the ability to grow a beard. This competition has so many elements, there is the side beard, and the creative competition. There was a person who made their beard into a gondola, I mean how cool is that. The next time this competition comes to Austin, give yourself permission to go. You will have a whole new appreciation for the beard enthusiasts, and what they can sculpt out of hair.

It is located in downtown Austin, and overlooks the downtown area from the hilltop. It has more floor space, at 360,000 square feet, than any other state capitol building.

[…] To get the full bat experience, you need to plan ahead. The best experience is to rent a kayak or take a boat tour to see the bats from the water. You will need to make sure you rent in advance as the evening rentals can book up incredibly quickly. If you haven’t had a chance to rent in advance, you can still get the bat experience by standing on the bridge. The area can fill up quickly, so plan on getting to the bridge about 30 minutes before sunset. Check out this post if you are looking for more exciting things to do in the Austin Area. […]
