What could be more romantic than a Treehouse Dome Home?

Staying in these dome homes is the perfect romantic weekend getaway. They are located in Red River Gorge, Kentucky. They call it the Dome Town suspended in the trees on platforms, there are three geodesic domes in Dome Town. They come with a kitchenette in the dome, and its cozy and comfy with beautiful views of the surrounding forest.

The kitchenettes are fully stocked for your weekend getaway, including hot plate, coffee maker, and utensils. Perfect to pick up the groceries you needed for the weekend and make dome-home cooked meals in your jammies after a day of hiking. If unlike me your SO does not provide enough body heat to heat a small mansion, they are set up with space heaters to keep you warm so you can even go in the cold months. This Florida native went in January and the small chill in the air made for a prefect night of sleep.

Its about a 1/4 mile hike up to the treehouses, if you arrive at night there is lots of lighting to show you the way throughout the suspension bridge structure. You will walk up a stair case to get to the platforms, and they are all connected with suspension bridges. There is even a giant canopy net you can lay in. Perfect for late night star gazing with your honey (just make sure to remove everything from your pockets before you walk out.. unless you plan on making some unwanted donations to the local forest).

This escape was the romantic getaway for the weekend, it felt like you were living among the trees just for a small space of time. You may want to pack some yummy food so you don’t even have to leave unless you really want to.

Natural Bridge State Resort Park

If you are feeling inspired by the nature around you and you are looking to explore more, about 10 minutes down the road is Natural Bridge State Resort Park. There are many things to do to get your fill of the world around you, including hiking, kayaking, minature golf, fishing, canoeing, and birding. You can even ride a Sky Lift up to the top of the Natural Bridge. It is only open seasonally, first weekend of April through last weekend of October.

Hiking was the way to go in the winter, and Balancing Rock trail was totally worth the .75 miles, lots of stairs and eleveation. Be warned, it is doable but the heavy breathing might ensue… you go by balancing rock, and the trail ends at the natural bridge. You can explore both on top of and under the Natural Bridge. It was a bit windy at the top when we went but the views were worth it. This is the perfect couples retreat near me, and hopefully near you too.

If you aren’t looking for that level of heavy breathing, hike the Original Trail which is the shortest trail at .7 miles, and it slopes the whole way so not all the stairs to the Natural Bridge. There are 8 other hikes you could partake in to enjoy the tons of hiking options in the area.

Natural Bridge

Natural Bridge is very large you can walk under and on top of it but it is so big you can barely fit it into one picture. Take your time exploring and getting the best shot while you are here. The park offers a skylift in the summer up to the top of Natural Bridge, but you can also hike up, under and around the bridge.

It is huge, seriously huge, but it is perfect for exploring and you will enjoy the afternoon hiking around the area.

Exploring the Red River Gorge Area

No weekend getaways for couples would be complete without exploring the area, and Red River Gorge has a cute Daniel Boone Coffee shop, super local and you can pick up some essentials if you need to. The coffee is yummy and the theme is so perfect for the rural setting.

Red River Rockhouse has food available and it looks super yummy, but because we were trying to make the most of the time in the dome home, we packed food, but everyone highly recommended the food here.
