Getting everything you need into the perfect personal item is one of the best tricks to keep costs low.

Getting to Miami you have two major airports, Miami International which is close to the action and has so many flights to and from anywhere you likely can find the right fit, but if you can’t it is worth a check at Ft Lauderdale International. +Bonus tip on how to see Miami Beach!

The Vizcaya Mansion

The Vizcaya Mansion is a super cool historic home located in South Miami Florida. It was built between 1914-1923 and has the architectural style of Mediterranean Revival. It is located on Biscayne Bay and the views over the bay are stunning. If you are looking for gorgeous gardens look no further than the gardens on the property. The Vizcaya was one of the first to have telephone service in Miami-Dade County. Needless to say the house was named a National Historic Landmark in 1994 and has been maintained as such ever since.

The house is stunning, and has many beautiful rooms, the terrace room and the library were my favorites. If you look at the back of the library door you can see it has a book shelf and books built in, so that when the door is closed it is totally hidden. I have always wanted a library like that.

The terrace overlooking Biscayne Bay is gorgeous and on weekends they have tons of events here, and it is easy to see why. It has the perfect location in south Miami, it has some gorgeous gardens and I am sure any event here would be totally epic.

The gardens feel very European in influence, with hedges, nooks and crannies to explore. There are water features, and fountains, as well as the iconic balcony scene overlooking the garden. It felt very Romeo and Juliet-esque to be sure.

Tips to Visit Vizcaya Mansion

  1. Book your tickets on their website in advance ($22 for adults)
  2. Come in the morning, the temps will be so much lovelier
  3. Remember events on the weekends may cause them to close early
  4. Live it up and take so many pictures!
  5. Spend some time enjoying the history and allure of historic spaces

Just to note, if you are coming to take pictures they require a photographer permit that must be purchased, if you are a professional photographer or require costume changes. It isn’t required if you are just doing

The Wynwood Walls

The Wynwood Walls are a series of graffiti installations in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami. This art changes quarterly and is always beyond epic. It is free to enter and wander around, and it is not just the formal installation where you can see some amazing art. It is also all the streets around the walls that you can see some amazing art. The neighborhood itself has a very chill vibe to it, and there are some super cool and yummy restaurants to visit while down there.

The first stop that is a must hit, is Coyo Taco, President Barack Obama visited here while he was still in office. The tacos are divine, but the line is long so be warned. Seating can also be a bit of a problem, so you might end up standing. It is totally worth it, but try to only get 1-2 things because there is so much more.

Next stop is Panther Coffee, it is a Miami institution, and it is for sure so very yummy. It has all the staples of your standard coffee shop, but is so iconicly Miami you must stop by and support.

If you are wanting to keep the supporting local going, I recommend stopping by Zak the Baker. He is growing significantly and all the baked good are divine. Grab a sandwich if you are there and they are serving, but if not grab some amazing bread for the road.

The Star Wars Mural outside of the actual Wynwood Walls exhibit is totally worth the walk. It is to the left of the walls, and a couple blocks down. It is one of my favorite and has been there for years.

1-800-Lucky

The final stop in this area is 1-800-Lucky, this is an Asian Food Hall and maybe my favorite place on earth. Yay for foodhalls, foodies of the world rejoice upon this invention/ massive upgrade to the cafeteria model. I love/ am more than slightly obsessed with the fact that all the food here is Asian, but you can support so many different local places at once. Here is the dish, you can get a poke bowl, some ramen, some killer pad thai, and a steam bun!! Then finish it off with some of the most amazing soft-serve in the softest fish shaped waffle cone ever tasted!

Boca’s House

Boca’s House has two locations, one in Doral and one in Weston. The food is beyond lovely, but it is the milkshakes that are to die for. This is for sure worth any drive time. The last time we went, it was July 4th and they had a milkshake themed for Independence Day. It had a vanilla milkshake base, with a whole piece of three layer cake on the top. Ok I have officially found heaven and you can too. It is worth it, trust us and just go!

Everglades National Park

One of the most unique experiences in the world is The Florida Everglades National Park. It is one of the largest wetlands in the world. It is only about an hour from Miami to the one of the park entrances, there are 5 different entrances, but the closest is Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. The Everglades has nine distinct habitats, and animals that are not found anywhere else in the world. It is also the third largest national park in the lower 48 states. A day trip to the Everglades is well worth the time. Make sure to pack sunscreen and bug spray, stay hydrated and be aware of wildlife on the trails.

5 Things to do in Everglades National Park

  1. Take a tram tour to the Shark Valley Observation Tower
  2. Take the Bobcat Boardwalk trail, it is wheelchair accessible
  3. Rent a canoe or kayak and meander around
  4. Look for some of the enchanting wildlife you cannot find anywhere else in the world
  5. Watch the sunset over the river of grass

Miami Beach

I know, I know, I didn’t recommend Miami Beach, so here it is… early in the morning (9-10am Miami time) take a walk on the beach. It is before the crowds get here and the colorful life guard towers are on full display. One of the nicest, and a little less busy spots is the 36th Street Park.

Parking can be pretty tough to find down here, so I recommend finding street parking if possible, but you may have to find a garage spot. There are some public garages that are a little less expensive but still expect to drop about $20 on parking.

The waves of the Atlantic Ocean Crashing against South Beach

This is not the super busy Miami area this is more about the water, sand and sky. If you want to spend the day, just remember the sun is so strong here, so sunscreen is a must… when you get back to the hotel and your friends are crispy, you will thank me.

The Art Deco Buildings along Ocean Drive

Bonus points if you can find The Egg in Miami Beach, heres a hint it is in a back alley, 1499 Ocean Court Miami Beach. It is officially called “The Orb” and is actually a sky bridge that connects The Betsy and Carleton Hotels.

It is a fun and unique spot to visit while you are down in the area.

The Betsy Orb hidden between two buildings, such a fun spot!
